What is the Challenger Division?
The Challenger Division is designed for individuals with special needs or differing abilities. Participation is open to everyone, regardless of whether they reside within our Little League zone. Our goal is to provide a fulfilling baseball experience while also fostering integration into everyday life. The Challenger Division is an integral part of our Little League, ensuring that all players have the opportunity to enjoy the sport.
Who can participate in the Little League Challenger Program?
Any individual with a physical or intellectual challenge may participate. If an individual can participate in the traditional Little League Baseball or Softball program with reasonable accommodations, they should do so.
Key Details:
- Eligibility: The Challenger Division is open to individuals possessing special needs or differing abilities, aged 5 and older.
- Cost: Thanks to the support of our league and local sponsors, participation in the Challenger Division is free for families.
- Game Schedule: Games are held on Fridays, with two time slots available: 6:00–7:00 PM or 7:00–8:00 PM, depending on the age group.
Join us in celebrating the spirit of baseball and inclusion!
Little League defines three separate sub-divisions for Challenger Baseball. We currently only have Challengers. As we grow, we hope to have two separate sub-divisions.
Challengers:
For kids with special needs ages 5 up through 17. Non-competitive. Rules are designed for fun and not competition. We don’t count runs, outs, balls and strikes. Every kid bats successfully by hitting a coach-pitched ball or a ball placed on a batting tee. If needed, parents or coaches can assist batting and help the player move from base to base to cross home plate. Games typically last about 60 minutes.
Challenger Buddies:
We like to have "Buddies" join us for every game all season. Buddies are people at least 12+ years old and have knowledge of baseball. Buddies stand next to our Challengers and assist as the Challenger wants. Some can catch and throw with no help; some need a little help with fielding or throwing the ball.
